The project "Gnawa Blues" brings together recordings of the four greatest "maâlems" (masters) (Hamid Kasri, Abdelkebir Merchane, Abdelkader Amlil, Hamida Boussou) in an original and different way. While there have been many Gnawa recordings so far, most of them have the ritual omnipresence of castanets that invade the sonic landscape. For the "Gnawa Blues" project, Hamid Kasri, Brahim El Belkani, Hamida Boussou, and Ahmed Bakbou have agreed to step out of the traditional ritual framework and record in the studio. Therefore, it is a delicate work on singing and the relationship between voice and lute.
